As you all know I went on my first overseas trip recently, and survived to tell the tale. I was nervous about flying before I left and tried to ignore the first take off, by burying myself in a book and pretending I was on a bus. On the trip home I was busily taking pictures out of the windows.
Here is the link to my pictures.
Here is a slide show of my pictures.
I went to Singapore and Malaysia, with my girlfriend, Helen.
Singapore has two faces, the colonial heritage and the ultra modern automated city. The photo below is “Little India” in the colonial section.
The streets of Singapore are so beautiful and clean. Bouganvillea blossom hang over their bridges and along the roadside.
The famous “Raffles Hotel” A “Gin Sling” cocktail costs $27aust. Suffice to say I didn’t have two of those!
A visit to the Botanic Gardens is a must. The beauty of the gardens is astounding. The most perfect orchids I have ever seen.
After Singapore I took a short flight to a Malaysian island called Langkawi. An interesting place to visit. The resort is absolutely grandiose, however I felt a little guilty after venturing into town and observing the poverty of the locals.
I was sitting on the deck of my room enjoying a Gin & Tonic and peanuts with my friend Helen, when the monkey in the photo below, jumped up to join us. Being the animal lover that I am, I naturally crouched down in front of our new guest and gushed “What a cute little monkey”. The monkey bared his teeth and growled at me, whilst I screamed, swore and ran back inside, the “cute” little fellow stole our peanuts. Helen soon followed me inside and as we stood watching our ferocious little friend devouring our peanuts, he was joined by a relative who thought the source of the tasty peanuts was inside our room and to our great horror began opening our glass sliding door. Amid much screaming, we managed to lock the door and suffice to say didn’t venture out to the balcony again.
I did not take any photos of myself on the holiday, so to remedy that, here I am writing this post.
