Norfolk Island Trip

Bush Walk

Many of us went for a pre-breakfast bush walk.

Some parts of the track were fairly steep ...

... but the views were reward enough to compensate ...

... and finished the walk near the site where Captain Cook landed, in 1774 ...

The walkers met up with the rest of our party for an open air breakfast at Anson
Bay …

... where our drivers showed off their skills as cooks and waiters ...

Island Culture Tour

Our afternoon was spent investigating various aspects of Island culture.

We started at a house called Allendale …

... where Jodi demonstrated some island dishes using bananas ...

Our next demonstration was wood turning by Darren …

Weaving is an important island activity and Cath showed us some of the plants that are used for weaving and some of the weaving techniques …

Finally Susan taught us some of the Norfolk Island language (which is a combination of 17th Century English and Tahitian).

She demonstrated pickup lines in Norfolk (our own Bruce was involved in the demonstration) …

Some web links on Norfolk Language can be found: here , here and here.

There was also some dressing up involved ...

Wonderland by Night

This activity involved bush poetry illustrated by dioramas; some of the poems were in the Norfolk Island language.

It was a wet night ...

... but an enjoyable one.
