Christmas, roast, Salford, a mystery and a Party

Christmas
It is always strange that traditionally we eat a hot meal on Christmas day at the height of an Australia summer. It is a winter meal and in a cold Melbourne winter we need a reason to celebrate ... so there are at least two reasons for Christmas In July.

We held our "Christmas" on July 16th. We went to the Wallace Hotel, near Ballarat. As we "wined and dined" we were entertained by the owner, who has an excellent country music voice. Some of us took the chance to try out the dance floor when he sang some foot tapping music.

We returned home via Daylesford. For those residents who didn't go on the trip, Pat organised a morning tea at the village.

Spit Roast
On Sunday 19th July we enjoyed another of our regular Spit Roast Lunches. An enjoyable time was had by the 50 residents who attended. Thanks again to Mick for organising it.

Salford
On Thursday, 23rd July, most residents attended a meeting with our new owners, Salford Living, a subsidiary of IOR. We were addressed by Chris Henderson, the Managing Director of Salford Living. Chris outlined the Salford Living's plans for the Village, which was very well received by residents who attended.

After the meeting a light lunch was served, prepared by Heather and Suzanne.

Mystery Trip
On Friday, 24th July, 16 residents went on a mystery trip. We headed south towards Geelong, and travelled the full length of the new Geelong bypass. After morning tea in Torquay, we were driven down the picturesque Great Ocean Road to Lorne, where we had lunch and spent some time shopping and taking in the scenery. When we arrived back at the Village Happy Hour had already started.

The Party
We don't really need an excuse to attend Friday afternoon Happy Hour, but this time we had an extra reason, for Elaine Spicer turned 80 the next day. Many residents attended to wish Elaine a Happy Birthday and to socialise with village friends.
